The Health aspect of Safety, Health and Welfare at work legislation and management systems is for the most part overlooked.However, the Minister for Labour Affairs Mr. Billy Kelleher TD is now urging Employers to take the health aspect into more consideration for their Employees.
Research carried out by the Health and Safety Authority has found that illnesses related to the workplace are on the increase. Some of the illnesses becoming more common are MSD Musculo Skeletal Disorders such as back and other muscle injuries, Mental illnesses due to stress or workplace bullying, issues arising from exposure to noise, vibration, irritants etc. The Health and Safety Authority will be stepping up their monitoring and inspection of how Companies are managing Occupational Health in their safety system in the coming months and years and want to increase employers awareness of the need to protect employees health as well as physical safety and well being.
