Health and Safety during the Hot and Sunny Weather

Everyone is delighted to see some real Summer weather at the moment and long may it last.

While it is good for us to get out and soak up the rays and top up our Vitamin D storage, it is important to remember the following points when working outdoors:

  1. “Slip, Slop, Slap” Slip on a shirt, Slop on some suncream and slap on a Hat is just some of the simple and practical advice that an Australian Health campaign recommends.
  2. Make sure you have enough water with you and drink it.
  3. Limit your time in the direct sun, try and work in the shade as much as possible and avoid working in the sun between the hours of 12 midday and 3 pm (the hottest hours of the day).

Account of the heat and exposure to sun rays should also be taken account of in your Risk Assessment and appropriate control measures implemented. Keep it under review.

And last but not least, enjoy the good weather!
