Risk Assessment – Theme of this Years European Safey Week

European Safety Week starts on Monday October 19th and the theme this year is Risk Assessment. The aim of this particular week is to promote an integrated risk management approach.

It is organised by the EU Agency for Safety and Health at Work http://osha.europa.eu/en and hopes to demystify risk assessments and highlight how important they are to effectively managing health and safety in the workplace.

When carrying out risk assessment, a simple 5 step process can be followed:

  1. Evaluate and prioritise the risks.
  2. Identify the appropriate measures to eliminate or control the risks.
  3. Decide on preventive action.
  4. Take action.
  5. Monitor and review.
